Loose-Leash Walking: Stop the Pulling
Loose-leash walking makes walks calmer for both of you. Dogs pull because it works, so the goal is to make a slack leash the way to get where they want to go.
Step by step
- Reward position beside you.
- Stop when the leash tightens; go when it slackens.
- Treat every few steps at first.
Tips
Use a well-fitted harness or flat collar, bring extra-tasty treats, and keep early sessions short. Consistency from everyone who walks the dog matters most.
Level: Intermediate 路 Category: Leash. Use positive reinforcement only: reward what you want, never punish.
